Community Coaching Course
This course is designed to teach basic archery coaching skills.  Coaching differs from instructing, though you must be able to instruct to be an effective coach.  Instructors are expected to impart knowledge of archery technique to students and supervise their practice to a certain level of perfection.  Coaches are responsible for the overall development of an individual or group of archers into athletes.   The new Easton-Newberry Sports Complex, which will be the home of one of the Easton Archery Centers of Excellence, has completed construction pending final utilities and service inspections. The Grand Opening of the facility, set for Friday, Oct. 30, 2009, will offer a full day of activities for the archery community. All archers, instructors and coaches of all archery organizations are invited to attend.

The Grand Opening will be highlighted with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony at noon on Oct. 30 by Jim Easton and other Easton executives, along with Newberry, Fla. dignitaries. Immediately following, attendees will be able to participate in an open target shoot.

A 4-hour coaches' symposium for any archery-certified instructor or coach will be offered the morning of Oct. 30, hosted by Doug Engh of NADA; USA Archery National Coach KiSik Lee; and Bob Romero, who was recently hired as the Easton-Newberry Archery Center resident coach. The coach symposium will focus on: USA Archery national coaching system (Lee and Romero); NADA's role and coaching opportunities (Engh); and information on hosting regional/national specialty camps. All interested coaches must RSVP to NADA.

"Jim Easton's vision in developing the archery regional training facilities is an excellent way to further develop the sport and introduce archery to a broader audience," said Denise Parker, CEO, USA Archery. "The Easton Archery Centers of Excellence will provide dedicated year-round facilities to archery instruction and training.  This is a giant step for archery in this country, and we could not be more excited about this project and what it means for the future."

This new facility includes a state-of-the-art indoor/outdoor range, and includes a wooded field 3D range. Also, the Florida Wildlife Commission is building an onsite bowhunting training center, which may be ready by the grand opening.

This training center located in Newberry, Fla., similar to the one in Yankton, S.D., will be open to all archers and coaches. Schedules will be available in the near future and all are encouraged to request programs and events. Romero has been finalizing and installing the training equipment that will make this facility a world-class leader in the training of elite archers and coaches.
